“You don’t know this, but Trevor Linden had cracked ribs and torn rib cartilage for the last four games of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final. You can’t imagine what it’s like to hear your captain, in a room down the hall, screaming at the top of his lungs as they injected the needle into his rib cage. Knowing him, he probably thought we couldn’t hear. He would then walk into our dressing room like nothing had happened. That was inspirational.”—Cliff Ronning | Vancouver Canucks
With the release of Death Cab for Cutie’s new album “Codes and Keys” coming up May 31, I think it’s probably only a matter of time until the album is leaked or listened in its entirety on the internet (I think there’s actually a legitimate source out there that has a first listen to the album). My current dilemma is whether I should listen to the album ahead of time or wait until I purchase the CD on release day. I’m leaning towards the latter option, even though I usually like to listen to albums ahead of time. But I want to be able to buy this one and be able to enjoy it that much more. It’s going to be tough because I suspect that there are going to be a lot of music posts on Tumblr featuring the tracks on the album. May 31 come faster.
“Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.”—Barack Obama
When you mistake another customer for a person who works at a store.
I was at Best Buy looking at the new iPod Nanos (my God they are tiny) and trying to figure out how to get out of a certain screen. I noticed that somebody wear a blue polo shirt was standing to my right, slightly behind me. It seemed like he had been watching me tinker around with the Nano for a while, so for whatever dumb reason I thought he worked at Best Buy and I just straight up said, “Hey man, do you know how I can get out of this screen?” He just replied, “I don’t work here,” with a smile. Obviously I felt like an idiot so while I apologized and we kind of laughed it off. To be fair though, he was totally dressed for the part and his shirt had the mall’s logo on it. Blah, fail moment of the day.
Smallville series finale. This show has been airing for the last decade. It was a slow buildup, but the ending was totally worth it. And they played the Superman theme and paid tribute to the movies too, that was particularly awesome. I know it’s just a show, but I can’t believe that it’s really over! I should really head to sleep now though.
Somebody save me Let your warm hands break right through Somebody save me I don’t care how you do it Just stay with me I made this whole world shine for you Just stay, stay, come on I’m still waiting for you
And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind And now all your love is wasted And then who the hell was I? And I’m breaking at the britches And at the end of all your lines
A terrific song by Justin Vernon and his crew, one of my favourites from the band’s debut album. On a side note, there is also an English singer-songwriter by the name of Birdy who released a phenomenal cover of the song. Both versions are great in my opinion, but mad props to Birdy cause she’s only 14 years old! Definitely listen to both versions.
I’m contemplating watching this comedy/horror movie for tonight. I think it’s called Tucker and Dale VS Evil or something like that. I don’t really know too much about it, although it does star Tyler Labine. He’s a pretty funny guy (he was in Reaper, currently in Mad Love). People on the net are saying it’s funny though, so maybe I’ll give it a chance. If it’s not worth it (frankly it looks like some kind of twisted comedy in my opinion), I’ll probably just stop and watch something else. We shall see. I haven’t watched a movie in a while, and I have time tonight, so what the hell.
What I HAVE been watching though is AMC’s The Killing. I am now officially caught up, and I am hooked. It’s a nice crime drama but I love that it’s a whole series based on one case. So while generally shows like CSI or something do like one episode per case, The Killing has episodes correlating to each day of the case. I think that’s what I like about it. Besides the fantastic story writing so far of course. Since each episode is like a day, the whole thing is more stretched out and in a sense the audience is able to dive deeper into the world that has been created. There’s so much emotion in the actors’ performances, especially the actors who portray the mother and father of the victim that you might not normally see too much in a normal show so to speak. It also kind of helps that AMC is a bit looser on censoring things like language and the such and in my opinion gives everything a more realistic feel to it, not something that has been fixed so it’s suitable for everyone. But there’s no doubt that the show is dark. I think maybe it was episode three, I watched that one right before bed, and man, that was a mistake. The content near the end of that one was pretty dark and disturbing, it took me a while to fall asleep that night. Ah, I am so hooked though. Can’t wait for new episodes.
And in Tumblr related news, I just discovered Brotips. There’s actually some good stuff on there.
My heart beats like a drum A guitar stringed to the strum A beautiful song to be sung She’s got blue eyes deep like the sea That roll back when she’s laughing at me She rises up like the tide The moment her lips meet mine
I get such a Jason Mraz vibe when I hear this. It’s a nice song.
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.”—Albert Einstein
Obviously the Queen and David Bowie version is classic (as expected since it’s the original), but I really like this cover by Keane. And it annoys me to no end whenever I hear the beginning, I get trolled into thinking that it’s Ice Ice Baby. Damn you Vanilla Ice.
